HAMBURG TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A missing Michigan mother and her 7-year-old daughter might be with a 64-year-old male acquaintance in a red Ford Escape, police said Thursday morning.
Amanda Elizabeth Hayward, 30, of Hamburg Township, was last seen leaving her home in the area of Chilson and Bishop Lake roads Monday morning with her daughter, Sapphire Elizabeth Palmer. The car they were last seen in was found Wednesday at an apartment complex in Ypsilanti, but the two remain missing.
Hayward was due in court this week to testify against an ex-boyfriend who is accused of beating her, but she missed it.
Hamburg Township police said they believe she is with the acquaintance in a red 2001 Ford Escape — Michigan license plate 2HVA18.
Anyone who sees the Escape is asked to call 911.
The FBI has offered to help in the case.
Purse found along road
Hayward’s purse was found on the side of the road several miles from her residence hours after their disappearance.
The purse contained credit cards and cash.
Paranoia and deteriorated mental health
Hayward had been recently suffering from paranoia and her mental health had severely deteriorated over the last two weeks, according to her father, Darryl Hayward.
“She woke me up and pounded on stuff,” Darryl Hayward said. “She was thinking that someone was watching her or listening.”
At one point, Amanda Hayward dumped electronics and toys in the bathtub to destroy the cameras and microphones she believed were watching her.
“I just want them back home safe,” Darryl Hayward said.
Description
Hayward is described as white, 30 years old, 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighs 140 pounds, and has long strawberry blonde hairs and blue eyes.
Sapphire is described as white, 7 years old, 4 feet tall, weighs 55 pounds, and has long red hair and green eyes.
